Safety precautions to try to prevent coronavirus (COVID-19) infection
I continue to provide care, support and companionship to my clients throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
I take every necessary precaution to try to prevent and limit the spread of infection, as the safety of my clients is of the utmost importance.
I work following the Government and Public Health England guidelines at all times. These include wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), socially distancing where possible and following infection control proceedures as necessary.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
I wear PPE (disposable gloves, disposable apron, a single-use face mask and if indicated a face shield), whenever I am in a client's home. I put the PPE on safely, remove it safely, and dispose of it safely after use. I wear fresh PPE with each client.
To enhance the effectiveness of the PPE, I also combine wearing it with the following practices:
I take my social distancing responsibilities very seriously.
Wherever possible, I keep a distance of two metres (or more) from others, including clients or relatives of clients, in their homes or when out and about (ie: shopping).
If it is possible I will also try and work in a separate room to a client (ie: when cooking or ironing).
When working in a client's home, I try and keep windows and / or doors open if possible, to maintain good air circulation.
In the case of coronavirus symptoms
If, even after following these strict safeguards, myself or one of my clients shows any symptoms of coronavirus (high temperature, new continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste), I will take the appropriate action as advised by the Government and Public Health England and the NHS.
I will advise my client to do the same and if needed, will then inform my client's next of kin.
